LAHORE: Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal directed all departments on Wednesday to complete ongoing development projects within the stipulated time.

He was chairing a meeting of the administrative secretaries’ committee at the Civil Secretariat. The meeting discussed the Annual Development Programme, the Citizen Feedback Model, building by-laws and cases of pension and departmental inquiries.

The chief secretary said that several development projects were underway in the province and they should be completed timely. “The Citizen Feedback Model is the best source of getting public opinion regarding government institutions,” he said.

He said that all possible steps should be taken to improve the model to help address people’s complaints.

Talking to The Express Tribune, an official, who was present at the meeting, said that the chief secretary had directed the officials to keep the feedback model’s portal about emergency health service restricted to complaints about non-provision of free medicine and behaviour of doctors at hospitals for the time being.

The chief secretary also directed heads of departments to conduct a survey of buildings that needed repair and reconstruction. He said that officials should ensure strict implementation of building by-laws.

The Local Government Department secretary informed the meeting that a bill to revise building control laws would soon be presented in the assembly.

The chief secretary also ordered the early disposal of pension cases and disciplinary proceedings. He said that government employees nearing superannuation must submit their service statements at least a year before the retirement date. The chief secretary said negligence and corruption would not be tolerated. He said government functionaries had a duty to the public.
