Bollywood megastar Aamir Khan has finally broken silence on the ongoing controversy he’s embroiled in following his remarks on the increasing cases of intolerance in India.

The actor uploaded his statement on Facebook stressing: “India is my country. I love it. I feel fortunate for being born here, and this is where I am staying.”

Wife suggested we leave India: Aamir Khan

Aamir also said that he and his wife have no plans of moving anywhere and that people stating otherwise were misconstruing his words.

“First, let me state categorically that neither I, nor my wife Kiran, have any intention of leaving the country. We never did, and nor would we like to in the future. Anyone implying the opposite has either not seen my interview or is deliberately trying to distort what I have said.

The megastar also said he stands by his earlier comments and thanked all those who supported him.

“To all those people who are calling me anti-national, I would like to say that I am proud to be Indian, and I do not need anyone’s permission nor endorsement for that.

“To all the people shouting obscenities at me for speaking my heart out, it saddens me to say you are only proving my point.

Indians lash out at Aamir Khan for statement on intolerance

“To all the people who have stood by me, thank you. We have to protect what this beautiful and unique country of ours really stands for. We have to protect its integrity, diversity, inclusiveness, its many languages, its culture, its history, its tolerance, it’s concept of ekantavada, it’s love, sensitivity and its emotional strength,” he said.

Aamir ended his statement with a poem by Rabindranath Tagore:

“Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high, Where knowledge is free, Where the world has not been broken up into fragments, by narrow domestic walls, Where words come out from the depth of truth, Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection, Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way, Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit, Where the mind is led forward by thee, Into ever-widening thought and action, Into that heaven of freedom, my father, let my country awake.”

We take stupid pleasure in reading what is sensational news in India. Their level of discussion is different. Here we have to talk about whether minorities can live and pray with basic human rights. Our constitution and laws provide zero protection to minorities unlike India.Recommend

I felt I need to speak on this platform to give you people an insight into the ‘Indian Muslim’ mind.
I feel that Pakistanis want to protect the rights of Indian Muslims. Let me tell you, you don’t have to worry about us. We chose India as our country and so did more than 150 million Muslims. We don’t need your sympathy or your country.
India is intolerant, it always has been. Yes, there are a few people who believe that India is only for Hindus. Yes, there have been instances. But, the Indian law has always protected us. Most of the Indians treat us equally. In a city like New Delhi, no one even cares about your religion/caste/creed.
My father is a civil servant in the Modi (the so-called Hindu extremist party) government. His brother serves the Indian Army. My sister is a layer in the High Court of India. My grandfather was a court judge. My neighbour is a Shia Muslim. One of my classmates two years back was a Sunni Muslim.

Pakistan was created for muslim living in who found it difficult to practice their religion in india. Pakistan should offer migration opportunity to indian muslim if they are uncomfortable in india. It is just like what south Korea does for north Koreans now. Just as west Germany did for east Germans. Else pakistan or pakistanis should shut up. India could be next afghanistan and could send millions of muslim refugees to pakistan. I just said that india could be another afghanistan but with exception that it will have nuclear weapons. The discussion of role of muslim just started and it is not going to end soon. If Pakistan does not wish this situation to develop then don’t try to incite or take ‘Chaska’. Advise muslim to handle situation peacefully and show loyalty to india. In this age of twitter and messangers, situation can go out of hands. No body wins over human misery. There is no Gandhi in india today and 80% population born after 1947. These indians being taught since 1st grade that pakistan was created for indian muslim. That is the root cause of today’s problemRecommend

With all sincerity, I as a Hindu can clearly state that tolerance is not part of the Hindu religion… As a Brahmin, I am superior to all other Hindus – Kashatriyas, Veshas and of course the very lowly Sudras. It is my birthright to be superior to all other hindu castes and within castes, we have defined hierarchy which defines status.. Sudras are the untouchables… And they can only do menial work … In Hinduism, you are born in these classes and you will die in them. No one is equal.

As for other religions, they are below the lowest. They are foreigners and therefore do not belong to my motherland. This is the Hindu dogma. Recommend

May be. But, why is that no Indian Muslim is beating down the door to move to Pakistan, a country that was created for them, to escape Hindu tyranny?

Worse, why is that millions of Muslims from Pakistan and Bangladesh move to India illegally? Recommend

Good thing Modi came to power. The impression of Hindus and India is going down rapidly in world’s eyes and Hinduvta fans have no good reply. BJP/Hinduvta fans restore to hate and mob rule and this make things even worse for them.

Modi faced very embracing treatment in his visit to UK. He was categorically told by one of the journalists in the press conference with David Cameron that he (Modi) did not deserve the respect as head of state due to his background as CM of Gujrat. If Modi had shame he would have resigned.Recommend

Brother, I really don’t know which Pakistanis you are talking about literally… I know 100s of families who migrated to Pakistan illegally from india;) and now living happily being a Pakistani citizen. Bangalis may migrate to india as it is almost the same for a muslim to live in Banglaesh and India.

    For your information:
    1. There are so many Bangalis working here in Pakistan and earning their bread and butter since long. Our favorite burger shop is run by a Bangali and it taste really well.
    2. I know 100s of families who migrated to Pakistan from india after the partition(in late 80s and 90s). All illegally.
    3. Even my grand parents migrated to Pakistan illegally in late 60s and my behnoee(brother is law) is the last person who migrated to Pakistan in the year 2006 and got married here. Now he is planning to call his parents here. His case was a bit difficult as things are now very much organized and technically fool proof as the whole database is now computerized.

Brother, things are much better and different as our media or THE media portrays to the world. Afterall, our discussion/debate here is what makes them make some money.

    Take care and be tolerant.Recommend

It’s true there is some discrimination against Muslims in India. But not so much as in other developing countries.
Before pointing out, have a look at the sheer no. of Muslims in Bollywood. It shows people don’t discriminate celebrities, else they wont be so successful. But when celebrities give such statements, people do feel hurt and retaliate.
Look at your own society and reply honestly, isn’t there high discrimination against minorities in Pakistan???Recommend

@globalobserver: Indian Muslims have more in common with other Indians than with the people of Pakistan. That’s why people like Amir Khan should stay in India or move West like millions of Indians. Pakistan is not the default location for Indian Muslims. It is the homeland for the people who live there only.Recommend
