Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has attracted immense attention after disclosing that his wife suggested they leave India following cases of religious intolerance in the country.

Wife suggested we leave India: Aamir Khan

Soon enough, #AamirKhan hit top trends on Twitter and hostile comments from Bollywood and enraged fans surfaced.

Actor Anupam Kher, who has been vocal about his stance on ‘intolerance in India‘, was the first from tinsel town to lash out at the actor:

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor had a few words of advice for Aamir:

Former actress Raveena Tandon was also furious, but chose not to name or tag anyone in her tweets, though it was fairly clear who she was referring to:

Singer Abhijeet compared his wife to Aamir’s:

However, renowned Indian journalist Barkha Dutt stood by Aamir:

Whereas Bigg Biss Season 4 winner has chosen to ban Aamir Khan:

The Jazbaa director knows better than to preach freedom of speech:

I never said India is intolerant: Shah Rukh Khan

Fans were a little unforgiving:

And then there were others who were all for Aamir’s argument:

Director Anurag Kashyap too shared his views on the matter: “Intolerance has always been there. We don’t have freedom of expression. It is something we have to live with, do our own bit, fight and refuse to participate. I hope it silences,” he was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

We don’t deserve Shah Rukh Khan, says renowned Indian journalist

India’s ruling party BJP also reacted, terming Aamir’s statement unfair. ”We won’t let Aamir leave the country, he is safe. This kind of comment influenced by a politically motivated campaign insults those who have given so much honour to Aamir in India,” said Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, the Minister of State for Minority Affairs.

Earlier another Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan, came under fire when he said there was growing intolerance in India.

“It is stupid… It is stupid to be intolerant and this is our biggest issue, not just an issue… Religious intolerance and not being secular in this country is the worst kind of crime that you can do as a patriot,” he had said.

I’m not a die hard fan of Aamir’s but i’ve seen one of his shows, satya vijay something, and he actually helped ppl out through that platform, he passed numerous bills for child protection and just bcz of that show his movie Dhoom 3 was released late and he gave had to pay the producers himself. I mean when he was doing good, every one praised him for that, the moment he speaks the truth, every one lashes out on him. Poor Him.

Furthermore, Dear Indians we don’t judge and Amir Khan is most welcome in Pakistan or anywhere in the world as his worked proved bigger than all of you, not just in terms of acting but also in terms of humanity.

They want Aamir Khan to have the freedom of expression……just think -didn’t Aamir get that freedom? What else do you hypocrites want…..you want Aamir Khan to be able to make a statement and NOT BE criticized?

If that’s what you guys want…..may I ask you where is the freedom of expression of all those opposing Aamir Khan

In a truly free nation Aamir Khan should be able to make factually incorrect statement and malign the nation…..it could be an irresponsible behaviour on part of Aamir, but he should have the freedom to be stupid, the freedom to be irresponsible…….but at the same te sane people should have the right to criticize him downrightRecommend

Imagine a Pakistani celebrity saying he wants to leave Pakistan and migrate to different country?

Does “adnan sami” ring a bell? how was he treated in Pakistan?

Amir khan made lot of political shows depicting he is some kind of patriotic Indian, but when few unfortunate incidents popped up, he wants to run away from the country. When all of India expects him to stand his ground and fight to fix the system, he wants to run away. Real “intolerance” there, isn’t it?Recommend

The fact that you have the Blasphemy law itself shows the level of intolerance. In India at least we have a debate, but in your country you settle the issue by killing.
BTW I am a Sikh and I can say Hindus are most tolerant people. They are the ones who saved us from Congress goons in 1984.
Perhaps either you feign ignorance or you genuinely have no idea of Gujarat riots. The fact of matter is the then CM Modi was two months into the office when incident occurred. There was shortage of police personnel to quell the riot and CM requested additional personnel from Rajasthan and MP. Both were ruled by congress at the time. They refused to loan police personnel. True some politicians were involved, but then they were tried and punished.

It is quite funny that if any statement is made from any muslim actor the only valid response from a section of indians is to go to Pakistan. What has Pakistan got to do with his statement which regardless of whether being politically motivated or being of genuine concern for well being needs to be looked at in its merit. Majority of the Indian people including Hindus are tolerant and secular. The concern begin voiced is the present stance and government silence towards hate statements made by right wing extremist outfits such as RSS, Hindu Mahaasba and so many others which are only serving to instill such fear in minorities. Even the Assaam Governor made a statement that India is for Hindus why is not being charged with sedition and speaking against the constitution. And where such people as Amir Khan who as celebrity are a pride for their country voice their concern than rather than it being understood is being criticised in this way only because now he is considered a Muslim first and Indian later. whatever happened to freedom of speech and secularism. “And you really want to know the real story of that girl geeta who lived here in edhi sahab’s care and she even practiced her relegion under the same roof where others offered namaz? So think twice before talking about hypocrisy.”
For one Geeta there are tens if not hundreds of Pakistani children coming to India for treatment and people here raise funds for them to stay.
Now that may be going too far. People have shades of grey. There is good and bad in any society.
Point is very simple : Amir Khan for his personal animosity towards Mr. Modi (which date backs to Narmada Dam days), has no right to tarnish country as a whole with one brush. And if he has the freedom of speech to do so, we as Indians also have freedom of speech to have an alternative point of view. Just because he has said something does not make it gospel truth. Remember it is he/his wife who had the idea of moving out of India. Nobody in India asked him to move out or make his intentions public.Recommend

Mom: Amir, you should be the last one to complain. You have been a lucky & pampered child in this house. Your siblings have struggled nuch more to build this house to what it is today. Work with them and fix the issues if you can”. Now siblings start discussing Amir and fight among themselves. Siblings: “Amir, If you want to leave the house, go ahead and leave”. Amir to siblings: “You are only proving my point. This is what I meant -You are intolerant”.
Now get the point? Who initiated this argument? LOL!!Recommend
