Tremors were felt in Malakand, Swat, Mingora and other areas of the province. However, no loss of life or property was reported.
Earthquake recorded in northwest Pakistan
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the epicentre of the earthquake was in the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan.
A strong temblor had jolted the northern areas on Sunday night, just a month after a massive earthquake had wrought devastation in the area. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake measured 5.9 on the Richter scale. Its epicentre was in the Hindu Kush mountain ranges in Afghanistan, 83 km north-northwest of Chitral, and close to the border with Pakistan at a moderate depth of 92.4 kilometres.
Mild earthquake jolts northern Pakistan
It was felt in northern parts of the country, including Chitral, Swat, Peshawar, Islamabad and their adjoining areas. People in far off locations such as Lahore, Jammu and Kashmir and even New Delhi in India also reported that they had felt the tremors. According to the provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) in Peshawar, no reports of any damages had been received in either K-P or the federally administered tribal areas.
