Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan starrer Raees has generated tremendous buzz even though it's releasing on Eid next year.

In fact, it has been in the news even before shooting began. Earlier there were reports that Farhan Akhtar -- who is one of the co-producers -- was meant to play the character which now Nawazuddin Siddiqi is playing.

Farhan has finally opened up about opting out of the film.  "Raees was suppose to happen at a very different time. It wasn't about not willing to play a police officer in it but, it was about not willing to do it immediately. It would've been the next thing I would have shot for (after Wazir)," he told reporters at the trailer launch of his upcoming film Wazir on Wednesday, reports NDTV.

Shah Rukh fans rejoice, Raees poster is out!

Farhan also said that he was a bit "uncomfortable" with the fact that signing Raees would mean he would have to play the same role again. "I was a bit uncomfortable with that. The two [Raees and Wazir] are completely different projects, but more or less you're playing the same kind of character. The foundation is same, so I didn't want to do it," he said.

He is happy with Nawazuddin Siddiqi playing his part now. "It's fantastic because we have Nawazuddin, who is playing that character. He is a fantastic actor," said Farhan.

Confirmed: Mahira, SRK will clash with Salman

He also spoke about Don 3, saying he has "no plans" to make it as yet. "I've always maintained that I have enjoyed writing the character. He is a very exciting character to write and I had a tremendous time working with Shah Rukh. Hopefully, something will come along. But I really don't have a plan," he said.

He also revealed that he doesn't have a cast in mind for the next installment. "I don't have a script so it is very difficult for me to tell you who will be in it. Don will definitely be in it. Apart from that it depends on what characters are there in the film," he concluded.

The Dil Dhadakne Do actor will soon be seen as a suspended police officer alongside Amitabh Bachchan in Wazir.
