KARACHI: As the third phase of the local government elections in the province draws near, Karachi chapters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) have opened new election offices around the city.

Both the parties have launched a joint campaign under the banner, 'Karachi Pukar Raha Hai' [Karachi is calling out]. According to Dawa Khan Sabir, the information secretary of the Karachi chapter of PTI, the party is contesting on 93% of the seats. He said his party leaders are busy in inaugurating new offices and running the party's election campaign.

"We are opening three to four new offices in every union committee of the city," he said. "Under the division, each union committee is divided into four wards, so a new election office of the party is inaugurated in each ward."

He said that in some of the wards, PTI has inaugurated two offices, while the JI has inaugurated another two.

JI information secretary Zahid Askari said the party is running a strong election campaign in the city. "We are opening election offices in all the districts," he said. "We are focusing on all the areas."

According to a JI party official, the JI has 330 offices in the 209 union committees of the city.

PTI chief Imran Khan and JI ameer Sirajul Haq are also expected to visit the city together to address a joint rally by the their parties during the end of this month.

Karachiite | 8 years ago | Reply Dec 5 is going to be an interesting day. PTI's popularity soaring in Lyari, and Haqiqi going head to head in many areas with MQM. Mayor will probably end up from MQM but they'll definitely need support from independents this time.
