Fake vehicle registration: Police reluctant to arrest MNA’s son

The capital police seem least interested to arrest the son of a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker, after two vehicles in his possession bearing the same registration numbers were seized by authorities on November 16.

The Kohsar police confiscated the two vehicles bearing registration numbers (RV-303) parked in Street 64 on Margalla Road in Sector F-6/3. The vehicles were owned by Ali Khattak, son of PTI MNA Nafeesa Khattak, and nephew of K-P Chief Minister Pervez Khattak.

The police however, seem least interested in arresting the lawmaker’s son, said a police source on Wednesday.

A case had been registered against Muhammad Ilyas, the driver of Nafeesa Khattak.

According to the source, Ilyas is on physical remand and told the police that the vehicles were in used of Ali Khattak. The police said the registration of one of the vehicles was fake, whereas the registration of the second, driven by Ilyas, was legal.

The source said the police did not include the name of Ali Khattak in the FIR. It was also said that Ali fled to K-P after the vehicles were seized.

Nafeesa sits in the National Assembly on a reserved seat.

Neither the MNA nor her son were available for comment, despite repeated attempts.

When contacted, a senior police official claimed that police issued had arrest warrants for Ali and were searching for him. When asked why police did not registered Ali or his mother’s name in the FIR, the official said it will be amended by including their names after an investigation.

PTI Public Secretary Relations Zahid Kazmi said he was not aware of the case and suggested that the lawmaker be approached directly as “it is a personal matter.
