ISLAMABAD: Burglars have made away with Rs570,000 from a ticket centre at the Fiazabad station of the Metro Bus Service (MBS) on Sunday night.

Station manager Bilal Zaidi filed a complaint with Industrial Police station stating that unidentified thieves struck the cash counter on Sunday night, when the administration had closed the station at 10pm. The amount stolen was stated to be the total sale locked in the counter. The cash was found missing Monday morning.

According to the complainant, the door of cash centre was broken along with the locker where the cash was placed.

Ashiq Hussain, the officer investigating the case, told The Express Tribune that police have registered a case against unknown persons. The officer said CCTV footage showed a man between the age of 25 and 30 enter the room wearing a helmet.

The officer said that there was no CCTV camera inside the room where the amount was taken. The footage then showed the man leaving with a bag in his hand.

Police suspect the involvement of MBS’ lower staff.

“We have started interrogating a few employees for their indirect involvement and hope that further investigation will yield more information,” said Hussain.

He said that the complainant claimed that total sale of weekend Rs 0.57m was locked in the counter. The act clearly indicated that burglars were familiar with the cash counter.

This is the first case of robbery since the multibillion rupee project was launched earlier this year.
