Strings quartet together after 20 years

Band evoke nostalgia by posting image of original lineup from the 1990s

KARACHI: Keeping up with the social media trend of posting flashback photos on Friday, Strings treated their fans with a rare photo featuring the band’s original four-member lineup. The band posted then-and-now images on their official Facebook page, with members photographed in the same pose they struck all the way back in 1990.

Apart from Bilal Maqsood and Faisal Kapadia, who form the current lineup, the picture featured former members Rafiq Wazir Ali on synthesizer and bassist Kareem Bashir Bhoy. According to the caption, the quartet recreated the cover for their debut album titled Strings, which was released in 1990. Having parted ways following the release of their follow-up album, Strings 2 (1992), the band members met after a gap of almost 20 years, the post read.

Since the turn of the millennia, Bilal and Faisal have been performing as Strings but a reunion picture was enough to throw their fans into frenzy on Facebook, with many even speculating whether or not the group would revert to their original lineup. A fan commented on the image, saying, “All four of you need to come together to make music. Strings were always a four-member band.”



Despite multiple attempts, Strings were not available for comments on a possible reunion. Strings recently performed in a concert at the Global Village in Dubai alongside Komal Rizvi. They have also helmed the past two seasons of Coke Studio as producers.
