Development: Capacity building at waste management demanded

“An integrated system of solid waste management is the key to sustainable development,” Urban Unit Chief Executive Officer Nasir Javed said on Saturday.


“There is a need to focus on capacity building at waste management companies,” Javed said at an orientation session for the board of directors of waste management companies across the Punjab.  The Urban Unit had arranged the session at the Planning and Development Department Auditorium.


Representatives from waste management companies in Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan and Rawalpindi attended the session. The concept of integrated solid waste management systems in large cities, financial management of the companies, procurement management and Strategic Planning and Services and Asset Management Agreement (SAAMA) were discussed during the meeting. Audit and accounts, human resource management and the Public Sector Companies (Corporate Governance) Rules 2013 also came under discussion.


Urban Unit director Rafay Alam and Local Government and Community Development Secretary Sara Aslam were also present on the occasion.
