BAHAWALPUR/SARGODHA: Cooperatives Minister Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar and MPA Shoaib Awaisi inaugurated the Prime Minister’s Kissan Package in Bahawalpur on Friday.

Under the package, Rs700 million will be distributed among small farmers in the division.

Addressing participants of the ceremony at Abbasia School, the minister said the government wanted to strengthen the agriculture sector.

He said farmers who owned up to 12.5 acres land and cultivated rice and cotton would be given Rs5,000 and get subsidised fertiliser. He said the package would also facilitate dairy, poultry and fish farming sectors with loans.

The provincial minister said taxes on machinery imported from abroad had been reduced to 9 per cent from 43 per cent. He said sales tax had been cut to 7 per cent from 17 per cent.

He said halal meat exporters would be supported years through special concessions.

The minister said under the Kissan Package, the price of DAP fertiliser per sack had dropped by Rs500 and NitroPhos fertiliser’s had dropped by Rs218 per sack.

In Sargodha, cheques were distributed by the DCO. Addressing the participants, DCO Saqib Manaan said that seven centres had set up for 35,997 farmers of Sargodha.

He said 102 farmers had been given cheques at the centre set up at Company Bagh.

He said transport facilities were available for farmers from their villages to the nearest centre.
