KARACHI: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) chief Muhammad Akbar Khan Hoti revealed on Wednesday that an inquiry against the 'black sheep' in the FIA has been initiated while a list of the corrupt officials in the department has been prepared and sent to intelligence agencies.

He disclosed this while talking to the media after attending a regional conference on 'Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling' organised by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in collaboration with the FIA at Pearl Continental hotel.

The conference was organised under the UNODC's Country Programme to enhance regional cooperation between source, transit and destination countries for overcoming the common challenges related to irregular migration attempts. The objective of the conference was to further strengthen law enforcement and cooperation in the region by bringing together officials to discuss emerging trends and patterns of human trafficking and migrant smuggling.

"The investigations against corrupt officials are in progress," explained FIA director-general Hoti. "The concrete evidences against such corrupt officials will be produced before the court and they will be dismissed from service if found involved in corruption."

Hoti further said that inquiries are also being conducted against the facilitators of terrorists and several of them have already been arrested.

Earlier, addressing the programme, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan said that the black money earned through human trafficking is being used to boost corruption and terrorism. According to him, hundreds of people who approach human traffickers each year to go abroad for a better life become victims. "This black money being earned through human trafficking is being used in terrorism," he said. "However, the government is serious about elimination of human trafficking."
