Second phase of LG polls on 19th

As many as 12 DROs, 234 ROs and 468 AROs will supervise local government elections

The second phase of local government elections will be held in 12 districts of the province on November 19. 


According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), some 14,585,822 voters registered in Attock, Chiniot, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Jhelum, Khanewal, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Sahiwal, Hafizabad, Toba Tek Singh and Sargodha will cast their vote in the polls.

The ECP has formed 9,011 constituencies, including 1,102 union councils for direct elections, 6,602 wards in union councils, 64 municipal committees and 1,297 wards in municipal committees in all 12 districts.

District returning officers (DROs), returning Officers (ROs) and assistant returning officers (AROs) have been appointed by the ECP for this purpose.  As many as 12 DROs, 234 ROs and 468 AROs will supervise local government elections.

As many as 11,906 presiding officers, 70,400 APOs and 35,200 polling officers have been appointed for the election.

There are 35,200 polling booths at 11,906 polling stations.

Under the Punjab Local Government (Amendment) Ordinance 2015, a union council shall have a directly elected chairman and a vice-chairman as joint candidates, and six councillors on general seats - one from each ward.

Polling for the third phase for LB elections will be held on December 5 in Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, Rawalpindi, Muzaffargarh, Narowal, Jhang and Khushab.

A spokesman of the ECP said Pakistan Army and Rangers would be deployed to maintain law and order.
