LAHORE:

Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday gave the provincial government and other departments till November 24 to respond to a petition challenging coal-fired power plants being set up in the province. Petitioners’ counsel Advocate Azhar Siddique said billion of rupees were being spent on the power plants designed on obsolete technology. He said the plants would have a serious impact on the environment. He accused the government of awarding contracts to its favourites without floating tenders. Additional Advocate General Shan Gull opposed the petition saying the petitioners had no locus standi to challenge the projects.
