Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: HBL in trouble after being dismissed for 181

Bowlers impress on day one as several teams restricted to scores under 200

KARACHI: Some superb bowling from Karachi Whites helped them dismiss HBL for just 181 after putting the visitors in to bat at the opening day of the second round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the National Stadium of Karachi.

Babar Rehman was the star of the show with four wickets to his name but he was ably supported by Shoaib Khan and Anwar Ali, who claimed three and two wickets respectively.

Fakhar Zaman’s 75 made him the highest scorer for HBL.

At the end of the day’s play, Karachi Whites were well on their way to posting a big first innings lead on 64-0.

At the LCCA Ground, KRL restricted Lahore Whites to just 163 as Muhammad Abbas took four wickets. At the end of play, KRL were batting on 53-2.

At the Pindi Stadium, hosts Rawalpindi were dismissed for 195 in their first innings as Wapda’s Waqas Maqsood took five wickets to leave his side in control.

In the match between Fata and NBP, Faheem Ashraf took five wickets for the bankers to restrict Fata on 257.

In the Pool A match at the Diamond Ground, Islamabad’s Hassan Ali and Shahzad Azam took six and four wickets respectively to skittle SNGPL on 182. However, the hosts were in similar trouble at the end of the day’s play on 25-4.

At the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore Blues’ Aizaz Cheema and Waqas Ahmed took five and three wickets respectively as Port Qasim were dismissed on just 230. Lahore Blues’ struggled as well and were on 49-4.

The batsmen were faring much better at the Niaz Stadium where Babar Azam was batting on an unbeaten 160 as SSGC reached 275-2 at stumps.

UBL, meanwhile, were 226-7 at the close of play against Peshawar at the Arbab Niaz Stadium, with Sohaib Maqsood batting on an unbeaten 54.
