1st T20: WI Women overwhelm Pakistan counterparts

Hosts claim comfortable eight-wicket win after visitors set 75-run target

A poor batting performance from the Pakistan Women cricket team saw hosts West Indies Women take a 1-0 lead in their T20 series after claiming a comfortable eight-wicket win.

West Indies skipper Stafanie Taylor won the toss and put Pakistan in to bat, and it was soon clear why. Javeria Khan was run out in the second over before fellow opener Ayesha Zafar followed her back in the next, with both openers making just one run each before walking back to the pavilion.

The top order folded completely, leaving Pakistan Women 24-5 after 8.1 overs. Some tight bowling ensured the visitors were never able to get going as all Pakistan players were guilty of playing too slowly. Skipper Sana Mir was the only batsman to score at better than a strike-rate of 70, as her nine off 11 balls gave her a strike-rate of 81.81.

West Indies Women level series 1-1

Only three women were able to reach double figures for Pakistan, as wickets fell at regular intervals. The 36-run partnership between Nida Dar and Aliya Riaz was the only one of note but it consumed eight overs.

Chasing a simple 75 to win, West Indies were never troubled despite losing both openers relatively early. A 54-run stand between Deandra Dottin and wicketkeeper Merissa Aguilleira guided them to over the line with 22 balls to spare.

Dottin followed up her 2-10 in the first innings with an unbeaten 38 off 39 balls to claim the man of the match award.
