The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has established its control room in Islamabad for the forthcoming local government elections in Sindh and Punjab, Radio Pakistan reported.

Meanwhile, according to the ISPR, army troops have also been called in by the civil administrator to maintain law and order during the polling process.

LG elections: Opposition parties demand army deployment

The troops will only be deployed in sensitive districts during the polls, the statement said, adding the conduct of elections will remain the responsibility of the ECP.

Earlier on October 8, opposition parties in Sindh had expressed reservations over the appointments of district returning officers (DROs) and ROs, and demanded the deployment of military or paramilitary forces in every polling station for the local government elections scheduled to start from October 31.
