ISLAMABAD:

A three-day workshop on solar-based technology concluded here at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) on Wednesday.

The workshop was jointly conducted by NUST, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar, and Arizona State University (ASU), US under the US-Pakistan Centres for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS-E) programme.

The programme is designed to support the country’s development by strengthening universities in applied and policy research, and is working in partnership with the two Pakistani universities and ASU.

Approximately 85 students and faculty conducting research on energy systems at the centres at NUST and UET participated in the workshop.

The workshop included sessions on solar data assessments, high precision equipment installation, power management systems and related simulation tools.

ASU USPCAS-E Programme Director Dr John Shumaker said, “Our partnership with NUST and UET epitomises ASU’s commitment to access, excellence and impact.”

UET Peshawar Vice-Chancellor Imtiaz Gillani said it was inevitable that the  energy centres in ASU, NUST and UET will collectively create solutions to the country’s energy crisis.

USPCAS-E Principal Dr Muhammad Bilal Khan, on behalf of NUST’s pro-rector academics, appreciated the efforts made by the United States Agency for International Development for promoting development in this regard.

The event was facilitated by Prof Dr Sayfe Kiaei, professor and director of the National Science Foundation Centre on Energy and Power Management at ASU, along with Dr Zafar Qureshi and Ahmed Sohail.
