PESHAWAR: Unidentified men stole parts from 20 vehicles during the three-day Muharram holiday. Asif, a trader who imports vehicles from Karachi to Peshawar, informed the police the October shipment of vehicles was en route from Karachi and was scheduled to arrive on Muharram 11. However, various parts were stolen at a dry port along the way. He said some of the vehicles lacked gear boxes, LCDs, air-conditioning units and navigators. According to Asif, the parts belonging to the imported vehicles were expensive and the theft resulted in a loss worth millions of rupees. “The railway authority charges Rs1,000 per car to ensure security and yet things are being stolen,” he said. “They have such irresponsible security in the railway.” Police officials added the railway authority is responsible for any mishaps regarding vehicles in transit.
