In the wake of Shiv Sena's anti-Pakistan campaign, a social media user riled by the intolerance of the party, which is a traditional regional ally of Modi's ruling BJP, has started a campaign called #ProfileForPeace.

Shiv Sena targets Mahira, Fawad

Ram Subramanian took to Facebook on Thursday to post a picture of himself with a note expressing his true feelings about Pakistan. “I am an Indian, I am from Mumbai, I don’t hate Pakistan, I am not alone, there are many people like me!” the note read.

The social media user urged others to unite under the hashtag, #ProfileForPeace, and do the same. “Do join in if you believe in peace being the way forward. Write this message on a post it note, take a selfie and make it your profile picture #ProfileForPeace,” Subramanian wrote.

"No more artists being banned. This is my voice. This is our voice for our Mumbai, our India. Enough of hate politics,” he added.

"It had been brewing in my head ever since I heard of a series of bans and attacks. Most of us common blokes don't feel such hate nor want these fights. And when you close the doors to art you open up a door for dark and unwanted things to come in," he told Times Of India.

The campaign instantly won social media, going viral on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Several people from both sides of the border changed their profile pictures to one with a little love note which says where they are from, that they don't hate each other, and are only being divided by hate politics.

But I hate people like Rajdeep Sardesai, Barkjha Datt who exaggerate atrocities against Muslims but keep quiet about atrocities against Hindus. In 2002 riots while around 800 muslims were killed, around 400 Hindus were also killed. RS and BD have not highlighted the case of a single Hindu killed during 2002 riots. They have been painting India as a tyrant country and unsafe for Muslims. If it is so, how come Muslim population has increased from 6% in 1947 to 16% in 2011? In Pakistan Hindu population has gone down from 20% in 1947 to 2% in 2011. People like RS, BD, Mulyam Singh, Lalu Yadav are the culprits of creating difference between Hindus ands Muslims.

And therefore the state censors any positive and pro Peace gestures coming out from within India and from across the border from Pakistan... By feeding the public with a one sided story, by giving the public a one sided picture, it is easy to brain wash them... The state machinery in India has done that well in the past few years... Media has stayed on the heels of the story which sells and brings in Rupees... TV and cinema has played their part welll.. And as a result, we have a nation which has closed its eyes and ears to peace... In fact, in a very short time, it has turned into a war mongering nation, willing to turn against anyone different from its ideology. Therefore, thanks to Ram Subramaniam for reminding everyone that there still is a sane group of humans left who desire peace and would like logic and sanity to prevail.

Ravi | 9 years ago | Reply The opposite of hate isn't indifference, it's love. How many Pakistanis and Indians can honestly say that they love the country across their border. And, it's perfectly fine if we accept that we don't love each other. Most Indians, that are proudly displaying the cheat sheets, can't distinguish between hating people of a different country and hating their country's policies. As far as I know, Indians have never been taught to hate Pakistanis but patriotic feelings do make them hate the aggression and insurgency the Pakistani establishment has, since its birth, made a part of its state policy. On the other hand, in Pakistan, there's has been an active movement to doctor its history that subliminally sends a clear message to the youth and the generations to follow about mistrusting the Hindus.

But I get irritated or impatient often, particularly when I meet people (friends, relatives, co-workers, strangers, etc.) or read what people say (particularly Indians and Pakistanis) who are not skeptical or those who do not have critical thinking or those who blindly follow religion (without being spiritual) or those who hate others...But, after some thinking, I get over it with the conclusion that they have not been fortune enough or they haven't had opportunities for better exposure to the world of ideas, to diversity, to travel to strange places, to read various books, to meet and know people who are extremely different from themselves, to understand the complexity of nature, to know some scientific facts..... I forgive them, accept them, and move on. In short, "When I reason enough, I find that I have no reason to hate them."

All of us want to succeed and have a reasonably good life, free from outside tensions, and the first step is to stop comparisons. We Indians have our strengths, and so do Pakistanis. Comparisons are the main reason for vitiating the atmosphere of peace and tranquility. God Bless both, India and Pakistan, and may peace and goodwill prevail.

But I don't like Pakistanis teaching us as shown here who Indians should vote or telling us we made a mistake by electing modiji and bjp. We voted bjp and modiji only because the promises he made to us for economic development of India.So that's our choice only. Only because you hate modiji you have no right to tell us who to vote.

BlackHat | 9 years ago | Reply I don't hate anybody. Period. There is no reason to hate people, may be individuals, but not people. There are vested interests in both Pakistan and India, some neighboring and distant countries too, that find this perpetual animosity beneficial, to the detriment of the common man in the subcontinent. Some are, arguably, more powerful than others. China has a keen interest in keeping Pakistan under its wings. It will work very hard to keep things that way. Western powers and their war industry will be loath to lose lucrative markets. Politicians have an easy shortcut to power that is hard to give up. Then there are those who want whitewash history, irredentists who want recreate ancient glory and avenge historical injustices. Then there are those that kill for God. Finally, the only ones who hold the keys to peace, they are the Boyz and their spooks. In India the extremist fringe is really marginal and Modi has been elected on a development plank. If this were not true, India would have plunged into civil war by now. This is what the latest online campaign to end hatred shows. I might come across as biased but I believe this. Only The Army can bring peace to the subcontinent. Unfortunately, until then it will only be otherwise. The odds are immense. Again love to all and hope for peace.

But I guess Indians might be hating because their ancestral land is occupied by the Pakistanis who openly say that they are Arabs & Turks. But Indians need to be wise, hate is destructive emotion, instead becoming indifferent and focusing on things at hand is better policy.

But this whole campaign is not about like or hate. It's about acceptance of all cultures despite their differences. For example, I accept India despite their hatred shown towards us via the political channel through Shiv Sena et al. The hate spewed through political channel can travel and cover a big distance. Hate can easily turn into violence. The whole campaign is countering and negating the powerful effect of hatred.

The maturity comes when both nations realize that in a democratic environment and 24/7 media there are going to be polarizing opinions. We try to co-exist in spite of these polarizing opinions. There is another comment equates, hating Pakistanis to eating non veg. Over the last couple of months, not a single incident was about Pakistanis eating beef. Let us not mix up solidarity with Indian muslims to solidarity with Pakistan. In summary a juvenile effort from emotional people.

This deserve appreciation for the courage that they have shown in trying situation against Government Policy. Such moves are supported by Congress. There are two other strong political groups in India which enjoys support of large number of Indian voters. Group 1> RSS & BJP. They are not specific about Pakistan when they vent their venom. They are against Sikhs, Christians & Muslims living in India. Group 2 Shev Sena They are against Indian Muslims, Pakistan & Muslims world over.

  I m sure that many Indians like many Pakistanis don't Hate India. However the worst scenerio in India is that BJP has been elected due to their anti Pakistan election Manifesto.  Gradually India has become a non tolerant society and masses has been brainwashed to the extent that a Pakistani family had to spend life on footpath when hotels in Bombay refused giving them place due their Pakistani Nationality.

Moreover Modi is under such an heavy influence of extremist organisations like RSS and VHP that their Cabinet members have to Give multi Media presentation to non elected executive body of the RSS.

It should allow Pakistanis to study and apply for jobs in India. India will be a great place to work for educated Pakistanis if the hate mongers are dealt with appropriately.
