Head-to-toe White
The idea of donning white, head-to-toe, may strike panic into the hearts of many fashionistas. But those fears must be swiftly overcome as all-white looks cropped up in almost every Spring/Summer 2011 collection. I agree it may not be the most practical of shades, but one cannot deny the pure glamour of an all-white ensemble. Designers have figured out how to give this hard-to-wear look a modern makeover. So whatever your taste, body-type or lifestyle, you too can incorporate this trend into your summer wardrobe.
Bold colours
Bold colours have made a comeback with a vengeance and it’s time for ladies to celebrate fashion’s renewed love affair with eye-popping brights and neon hues this Spring/Summer. For the ultimate ‘look at me’ this season I suggest donning yourself with this trend in Spring/Summer 2011. Whether worn loose and breezy for an easy daytime look, or body conscious for maximum impact, traditional style rules do not apply to spring’s new hues, just make sure that you wear yours with confidence.
Honeysuckle
Effortlessly chic and flattering to virtually any skin tone, honeysuckle is not just the most on-trend colour for the new season but one of the most versatile ones too. Designers have applied it to everything from simple cigarette pants, to form fitting mini-dresses to this seasons ‘must-have’ buy, the silk shirt. Wherever and however you wear it, honeysuckle is both deliciously elegant and refreshingly practical so make sure you snap up a couple of staple pieces quickly as this trend’s a sure shot sell-out.
Prints
Leopard prints, zebra stripes and alligator skins cropped up throughout the Spring/Summer 2011 collections, but they certainly weren’t the only prints on offer. As always, flowers are summer must-haves and this season’s florals are bigger and bolder. If the prints that appeared in the Spring/Summer 2011 collections were anything to go by, ‘clashing’ is no longer a fashion sin. Whether you choose animal, graphic or bold floral prints, mix, match and clash colours for a high-impact yet beautifully on-trend new season look.
Designers to watch out for...
Erdem
Erdem is the name that has been on everyone’s lips the past few seasons. The Turkish-born designer’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection is possibly his most delectable yet, offering his signature immaculately cut dresses in an elegant array of ice-white hues punctuated by delicate lace detailing and exquisite floral embroidery.
Matthew Williamson
Utility style reigned supreme last season and army greens and cool khakis cropped up yet again in Matthew Williamson’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection.
This season however, the London-based celebrity designer has given us utility with a fresh twist. Williamson combines simple, low-key pieces with luxurious embellishment, fringing, animal skins and exotic hot-house floral prints to make for winning summer style.
The House of Kamiar Rokni
Kamiar Rokni’s work has always been inspired by indigenous craft and he’s managed to merge traditional and cool. He has picked up the immortal motif used in truck art and brought it into mainstream fashion. This trend will not only reign in spring but it is an investment that every young hip Pakistani woman will want to make it will remain trendy for a long time to come.
Versus
Versus, the collaboration between Christopher Kane and long standing fashion house of Versace is renowned for its youthful, sexy style and this season is certainly no different. Chief designer, Christopher Kane wowed the crowds at fashion week with his colourful Spring/Summer 2011 collection which featured clashing prints, eye-popping brights and acid-wash tartans. Versus’ new season’s offerings are undoubtedly for the bolder at heart fashionistas as there is nothing remotely shy or retiring about this collection.
Herve Leger
This season the brand really outdid itself bringing us party-perfect pieces in monochromatic shades, super soft honeysuckle and delicate summery hues, whilst mixing things up with sculptural garments, lycra leggings and crotchet-style detailing. For a Spring/Summer look that’s guaranteed to stop traffic, there is no better place to start than this A-list beloved label.
