Vikas Swarup says India hopes Pakistan will deliver on assurances made to curb terrorism

India said on Friday it hopes the promises made by Pakistan in US will be delivered soon.

"We have also read assurances on terrorism by Pakistan. I hope they deliver," India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, according to the Times of India.

"Terrorism naturally comes to mind when talking about Pakistan. The US-Pakistan joint statement devotes much space to it," he added.

Further, Swarup said the ministry was open to NSA talks as decided in Russian city of Ufa. “We remain open to NSA-level talks as decided in Ufa," the MEA spokesperson said.

"Pakistan chooses to use terrorism as an instrument of state policy. India has always desired resolution of all issues bilaterally," he added.

The statement comes a day after US President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif issued a joint call for the Taliban to return to peace negotiations with the Afghan government.

Obama and PM Nawaz "called on Taliban leaders to enter into direct talks with Kabul and work toward a sustainable peace settlement," according to a joint statement, following a meeting at the White House.

Remember end 2013 there was an APM in the NA of Pakistan. where the final result came out that 50,000+ killings was carried out by "our" brothers. Is India your dear 'brother".

Don't you know this Indian state sponsored terrorism was responsible for killing of our 50,000 countrymen. Wake up!

curious2 | 9 years ago | Reply USA, India and Afghanistan have heard the same speeches from Pakistan for over a decade - all three agree the speeches sound nice - all three are still waiting for Pakistan to do what it promises. Over the years Pakistan has lost credibility and skepticism/cynicism are some of the consequences.

Terrorists designated as such by UN are roaming free like Hafiz Saeed and you are wondering why 60k Pakistanis were killed. But, the fact remains these killing machines were designed to hurt India, its not our fault they broke and started malfunctioning. You get no sympathy from India. It'll take a few years after Pakistan stops Terror against India for us to treat Pakistan as a non-Terror country.

sterry | 9 years ago | Reply I hope that India keeps its promises to stop cross border terrorism and its illegal occupation of Kashmir. Kashmir is the root cause of tensions in South Asia. If the world forces India to hold a referendum so people there can vote freely on their future, the problems there will stop. India should stop using Afghanistan as a base for cross border terrorism in Pakistan like it has been doing for the past 60 years.

There was an explicit reference to assurance given by Nawaz that Pakistsn will fulfill its commitment with respect to LeT which is designated international terror group. Since LeT has killed so many Indisns, naturally India took interest in the joint statement.

USA | 9 years ago | Reply @Point: Ummm... Safe haven to LeT in Pakistan IS a problem for India. Nawaz specifically gave assurance thatPakistan will deal with LeT who are designated as international terrorists, in line with international commitments. That is what Bikas Swarip is talking about.

So we are committed to stopping all terrorism including against India. It just takes time. Nawaz wants business and economic activity. He just needs to mention certain things, as per army requirements.

Issues are much larger so I guess please deal with it. While we are all here to deal with OUR OWN PROBLEM

Bill Clinton threatened him with action unless Pakistan retreated. After Nawaz came back he gave the order for withdrawal of troops. He got an empty assurance of "American interest" in the Kashmir issue. Was it the same this time ? Last time he paid the price by being sent into exile. Would there be a price to pay this time ?
