FAISALABAD:

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Faisalabad has requested the Faisalabad district returning officer (DRO) to withhold notification of results of candidates contesting the local government elections who have not paid the fee for displaying campaign banners and hoardings in public places.

In a letter sent to the DRO, the PHA Faisalabad coordination and marketing director said that the authority was collecting the fee for advertising at public places in the city.

“Some of the candidates contesting the local government elections are not depositing the charges for displaying banners in spite of issuance of notices,” the letter stated.

“In a meeting, the Faisalabad DCO has ordered the PHA to collect publicity fee from the candidates as they are liable to pay it under the law,” the letter said. “You are, therefore, requested to please withhold results of candidates till they produce a no-default certificate issued by the PHA,” the letter stated.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Faisalabad District Returning Officer Abdur Razzaq said he had received the letter. “I will decide the issue after consulting the Election Commission of Pakistan,” he said.

On Wednesday, a large number of banners and posters were removed by the PHA for the candidates’ failure to pay the requisite fee.
