Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday slammed communal politics saying Hindus and Muslim do not fight on their own, they are made to fight.

“The prime minister says Hindus and Muslims should not fight. I say that they do not fight on their own, they are made to fight,” Sonia Gandhi said referring to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments in Nawada when he said Hindus and Muslims should stop fighting and work for development.

During her speech at a rally at Jalalpur town, Gandhi attacked her opponents for doing communal politics. “When communal politics end, some people will have to fold up their business,” Gandhi said.

She also accused Modi of insulting the people of Bihar. “When you attack the chief minister of this state, you are insulting the people who elected him,” she said.

Further, she alleged that more money had gone out of the country through the Bank of Baroda forex scam than what the PM had managed to bring in through FDI.

Earlier this week, another Muslim man was lynched near the northern town of Shimla following rumours that he was smuggling cattle. Noman, 22, and his four associates were in a truck with around a dozen cattle when they were intercepted by an angry mob near Sarahan village in Himachal Pradesh.

The mob beat up occupants of the truck before dispersing. Noman, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, was so badly bludgeoned that he died of his injuries. On Friday, police said that they were still searching for the men who had attacked the truck and killed the alleged smuggler, the Hindustan Times reported.

Political opponents have accused Modi’s party of looking to create religious tension ahead of a crucial electoral test this month in the northern state of Bihar.

Tougher measures to safeguard cows are often used as a rallying call by politicians seeking to win Hindu votes, sometimes leading to Hindu-Muslim riots.

Modi’s government has clamped down on the illegal trade of cattle with Muslim-majority neighbour Bangladesh, and two states ruled by his party have tightened laws to protect cows.

How many of Indian Muslims follow secular laws compared to Sharia Laws? Why Indian Muslims have not yet return the property that was assigned to refugee from Pakistan?
