FAISALABAD:

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday arrested an Intelligence Bureau (IB) inspector for abuse of power, abduction and extortion.

An FIA spokesman said IB Inspector Rana Asrar Munir and five accomplices had abducted one Jamshed and had extorted Rs10 million from him.

“The inspector sent his accomplices to Jamshed’s house. They claimed that they were FIA officials,” he said. “They took Jamshed to Lahore where they threatened to kill him if he did not pay up.”

The spokesman said the men took details of his bank account and withdrew Rs10 million.

He said Jamshed approached the FIA over the matter. The spokesman said an FIR was registered and Asrar was taken into custody for questioning.

“The FIA team also arrested his accomplices and presented them before court and obtained a five-day physical remand.”

The spokesman said the FIA team had obtained footage from the bank where the suspects could be seen stuffing cash in a bag.
