World Open: Mehboob confident of good show

Pakistan’s veteran squash player is currently training in ongoing camp

KARACHI: Former world number 16 Farhan Mehboob is confident of putting on a good show during next month’s World Individual Squash Championships (World Open) in the US after improving fitness levels at the ongoing training camp in Islamabad.

The likes of Nasir Iqbal and Danish Atlas Khan have also been practicing with Mehboob, but the latter has missed the experience of the duo — who frequently participates in Professional Squash Association (PSA) events — due to a poor ranking.

Danish recently returned from the US after appearing in a few PSA events, while Nasir will leave for England on Saturday to compete in the $25,000 St George’s Hill Open.

Farhan Zaman and Aamir Atlas Khan are already in the US for their share of experience.

Despite missing out, Mehboob feels he is in the right shape to take on the world’s top-most players. “Physically, I feel really good and I’m ready to take on the challenge courtesy of my extensive training in the ongoing camp under the supervision of Faheem Gul,” Mehboob told The Express Tribune.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Squash Federation secretary Amir Nawaz said that while all the top players from the country will be competing at the World Open, former Asian champion Aamir has not sent his entry for the event.

“All the top players of Pakistan have entered their name for the World Open including Zaman, Mehboob, Danish and Nasir but Amir has not,” confirmed Nawaz.
