Last chance for Pakistan shooters to reach Rio

17-member contingent will try its luck at Asian Championship

KARACHI: Pakistan shooters are looking to secure berths at the 2016 Rio Olympics by performing well at the upcoming 13th Asian Championship.

According to the International Olympic Committee requirements, only the top 69 Asian teams can make it to Rio as part of their quota.

A total of 14 men and three women have confirmed their participation in the Asian event, scheduled to take place in Kuwait from November 1-12.

However, the National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) is only going to sponsor four shooters while the rest will be self-financed.

“This is our last chance to win a place for Rio, and for this we have chosen only four shooters – Usman Chand, Minhal Sohail, Zeeshan, and Ghulam Mustafa – who have the potential to make the cut,” NRAP Executive Vice- Razi Ahmed Khan told The Express Tribune, adding that if they failed to do so, they would hope to then receive wildcard entries.
