Kashmir issue: ‘UN resolution must be implemented’

PM Nawaz says he proposed solutions in his UN speech

The United Nations resolution on the Kashmir issue should be implemented in letter and spirit, said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday.

During a meeting at the Punjab Governor House, PM Nawaz said he had highlighted all the pressing issues in the UN General Assembly and provided proposals to resolve them. Regarding Balochistan, he said the federal government had embraced the leadership of the province. Responding to a question, the premier said the government had reached consensus with all the political leadership on every important issue, including the Zarb-e-Azb military operation, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project and the National Action Plan.

“If a party wants to engage in the politics of agitation and sit-ins, then what can be done?” Nawaz said in an apparent reference to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. “They must realise that negativities should be removed in the larger interest of the country.” He said the judicial commission was formed in the larger interest of the country and to end the politics of agitation. “But, unfortunately, things have not changed after the commission’s report.”

The meeting was also attended by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana.
