LAHORE: If there’s one tangible outcome of the fashion weeks this year, it is that we are able to finally predict and dictate trends. The opening of the retail store Turquoise was a firm manifestation carrying this season’s hottest trends, based on the Kalash theme and Phulkari inspired designs that Maheen Khan brought back in vogue with her Milan collection.

Interestingly it was a young fashion design graduate Akif Mehmood who initiated the Kalash trend in his debut collection in red and black at the PFDC Sunsilk fashion week last month.

Located in a nook of Z Block, Turquoise is an embarking venture that has joined the bandwagon of affordable ready to wear fuss free clothing for women. Its modestly sized chic interiors correspond to its simple yet effective design and colour palette. With nominal prices ranging from Rs3,000 to Rs6,000 for clothes with a great drape, cut and fall, it was no surprise that more than half of the stock was already sporting the ‘sold’ tag.

Partners Nushat Kamran and Fauzia Bukhari, the brains behind this shopping haven said,“We often attend exhibitions and go to stores where the price tags just don’t make sense to women like us who don’t spend that extravagantly. We offer a wide spectrum of clothing from casuals to formals most of which are based on civilization motifs like the Kalash and Phulkari, as well Mexican and African motifs,” said the duo.

The store also carries a line of smartly tailored leather jackets under the brand name Mocha which is currently run by Ali Bukhari. “We have been selling our leather jackets, and this season’s rage has been the biker jacket,” said Bukhari. He further added “We will soon be expanding our label ‘Mocha’ and will present a whole new collection of real vintage leather.”

Saima | 13 years ago | Reply Hey, I actually visited this store and it is really a great addition to the shopping choices in Lahore. I'm visiting from Dubai and had already bought a number of dresses from other boutiques. Seeing some of the outfits at Turquoise I regretted not having left enough budget for more shopping! :) Wanted to convey my compliments to the designers. It's a great selection!!! So good to see Pakistani women entrepreneurs and designers doing so well. Makes me proud!!!
