Days after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called upon India to demilitarise Kashmir, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has adopted a resolution reaffirming right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people in accordance with the United Nations resolutions, Radio Pakistan reported.

The unanimous agreement was made at the annual coordination meeting of the OIC foreign ministers in New York on Saturday, with adviser to PM on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz representing Pakistan.

Underlining the significance of OIC as an effective platform to address the issues being faced by the Muslims, Aziz said it can play a pivotal role in resolving the disputes of Palestine, Jammu and Kashmir, Rohingya Muslims, Cyprus and Nagorno-Karabakh.

He reminded the forum Kashmir was one of the long-standing international disputes waiting to be resolved at the UN forum.

sabi | 8 years ago | Reply @Raj-USA Saudis are usually very unsympathetic to Muslim causes. Don't assume what you heard is entirely true. But you are right there is lack of international support for Kashmir liberation mainly because of negative publicity on Pakistan from certain things like Osama episode, Balochistan being in the news, etc.
Raj - USA | 8 years ago | Reply Many years ago, I read an article on India questioning Saudis on OIC passing resolutions on Kashmir. Saudi Minister told India that according to OIC procedures, any country can bring any resolution and it is usually passed unanimously as a matter of formality without any debate. Saudi Minister said to India not to place any importance on these OIC resolutions on Kashmir as it is just a formality in most cases and carries no meaning or substance. Iran has also said the same to India on OIC resolutions on Kashmir. All OIC members themselves know what importance and credibility OIC has even within its member muslim countries, let alone any other non-muslim country. Didn't we all not see OIC in action in Myanmar? OIC is silent on China insulting and victimizing muslims. China is the only country in the world that has gotten rid of over 75% of its muslim population in the last 50 years and is on the way to make China a muslim-free population in the near future. OIC could have had some clout had it included India. Thanks to Pakistan. However, India is not interested in this block now as it has moved towards the block of developed and democratic countries.
