Pak-China friendship is beyond cultures and languages. The Chinese community in Lahore is deeply moved to see Pakistanis celebrating China’s national day as their own, Chinese Counsul General in Lahore Yun Boren said on Wednesday.
He was addressing a ceremony held at the Government College University (GCU), Lahore to celebrate the National Day of China. Members of the Chinese community residing in Lahore also attended the ceremony. Boren announced a gift of books on Chinese culture, geography, politics and economic to the university’s Centre for Excellence in China Studies (CECS).
“The people of Pakistan and China fill the cultural and language gaps between them with love and respect they have for each other,” he said.
Yun Boren said he was impressed to see GCU CECS students speaking very good Chinese, adding that he was also learning Urdu. “Learning each other’s languages will help us understand our culture and history. Pakistan and China are increasing people-to-people contacts. The youth of both countries represent the future of Pakistan-China friendship,” he said.
Addressing the ceremony, GCU Vice Chancellor Hassan Amir Shah said that every Pakistani was impressed by the economic development achieved by China in the last 66 years. “We should not only admire China, we must also learn from its experiences and initiatives which have made it an economic power,” he said.
He thanked the counsel general for his support to GCU CECS in the form of equipment and books.
GCU CECS Director Khalid Manzoor Butt said that the love and respect the Chinese showed for Pakistanis was unprecedented in the whole world. He hoped that Pakistan would also progress and prosper with support of China.
DCO Captain (r) Muhammad Usman also felicitated the Chinese community on their national day.
GCU Nazir Ahmed Music Society presented folk music for the Chinese guests. The performance was followed by a quiz competition among the academic departments of the university on Pakistan-China friendship. Yun Boren presented souvenirs to the winners of the competition. He appreciated their knowledge of China.
Later, Mr and Mrs Boren, VC Shah, DCO Usman and Dr Butt cut a cake to celebrate the Chinese National Day.
