Controversy: Education dept challenges VC appointment

Sindh education department takes note of the violation of rules and regulations in the selection of SBBU VC.

KARACHI: The Sindh education department took note of the violation of rules and regulations in the selection of the vice chancellor for the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU), Lyari.

Education Secretary Naheed Shah has ordered a summary for the removal of the vice chancellor Dr Rasheed Ahmed Shah. The summary will be sent to the chief minister for his approval.

According to the University Act’s Section 12, the vice chancellor is supposed to be recruited on the recommendation of the Sindh government. This act was completely neglected in the recruitment of Dr Shah as vice chancellor SBBU, Lyari. Seventy-five-year-old Dr Shah is the former vice chancellor of Sindh University and Shah Latif University.
