Overseeing the work: Cleanup drive starts before minister’s arrival, ends as soon as he leaves

The efforts by DMC and KMC were far better this year, says Nasir Hussain Shah

KARACHI: In order to monitor the cleanliness in the city in the wake of Eidul Azha, provincial minister for local bodies, Nasir Hussain Shah, visited various areas of the city on Tuesday evening.

Before his arrival at the Peoples Chowrangi, North Nazimabad, several dumpers were seen on the roads cleaning the garbage that was piling up since days. The minister took notice of the garbage dumped on the roads, which was causing problems for traffic. Shah also ordered the central municipal commissioner Nawaz Ali Domki to repair the roads.

However, the cleaning process was stopped and dumpers were gone half an hour after Shah left. This was the second time that Shah visited the area, claimed Hassan, a resident of the area. He said that those dumpers and cleaning vehicles only made their way whenever the minister came and then left soon after his departure.

Shah said that compared to last year, the efforts of District Municipal Corporation and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation were far better. He said that more than 1.7 million remains of sacrificial animals were collected and dumped on time this year.

Shah also accepted that there were complaints from some areas regarding delays in lifting of the animal entrails. "We have fired such officials and have also served notices to a few who couldn't perform well," he claimed.
