Improvised conveyance: Impounded bike and its merry rider

ISLAMABAD: A police constable was issued a show cause notice on charges of taking a motorbike from the premises of a police station for his personal use.

Ibrar Ahmed, a constable of Golra Police Station allegedly took a motorbike bearing registration number UM 764 from the premises of Margalla Police Station, where he had come on reserve duty on Saturday. The bike had been impounded by Margalla Police in a case.

Police sources say that Constable Javed Iqbal of Margalla police station had seen Ahmed trying to unlock the said motorbike in the premises of the police station. Ahmed had replied to Iqbal’s enquiry that it was his personal motorbike and had lost its keys.

Margalla Police in its complaint to Ahmed’s in charge wrote that Constable Ahmed, after unlocking the bike, rode it out of the police station and later parked it in front of a Utility Store where he was deputed for duty. It is still unclear how Ahmed unlocked the motorbike.

Ahmed’s theft was found out when the investigation officer needed the bike for his investigations.

Ahmed returned the bike and apologised for his behaviour. He said he used the motorbike for conveyance.

SP Saddar has ordered an inquiry into the matter. If the charges against him are found to be true in the inquiry ordered by the Superintendent of Police (Saddar), the policeman faces dismissal from service.
