PESHAWAR: A couple who eloped 10 months ago and married against the wishes of the girl’s family were gunned down on Monday. The incident took place near Bilal Coach Stand on GT Road in the jurisdiction of the Chamkani police. Police said Jarid and Aasia, natives of Lakki Marwat, were residing in Phase VI, Hayatabad. They planned to go to Lahore and reached the bus stand of a private operator. Just then, three armed men arrived and shot them dead. “We have been told by the boy’s family Jarid and Aasia married around 10 months ago, “an officer of the police station told The Express Tribune. “Ever since, the girl’s family had been after them,” he added. The officer said the couple probably realised the threat to their lives and decided to board the next vehicle to Lahore. “The assailants were three in number and managed to flee after committing the crime,” he added.
