PESHAWAR: IGP Nasir Khan Durrani asked regional police officers (RPO) to coordinate closely with security forces and come up with a comprehensive security plan for “high-risk” areas in their respective jurisdictions.

Presiding over a high-level security meeting at the Central Police Office, he told all RPOs and police officers in attendance to conduct search and strike operations in villages bordering the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. “Police should work closely with the counter-terrorism department (CTD) to arrest suspects who fled the tribal belt following military operations there,” the IGP added.

“In the event of a threat alert, the police should work closely with security forces to prepare a two-dimensional security plan for all vulnerable and sensitive sites,” he added. There should be mohallah and village liaison committees to help guide the police, said Durrani. Elected representatives should also be part of these committees.

“Police, with the help of these liaison committees, should conduct a crackdown against anti-social elements and terrorists as well as track down people who have rented houses locally,” he added. Each RPO should have a specific department in his office to deal with threat alerts.
