Seismic zone: Demolition of illegal buildings ordered

Chattah was of the view that there should be minimum or no loss of lives in case of any natural disaster in the city

QUETTA: The top bureaucrat of Balochistan has taken action against illegal construction in Quetta city and ordered remedial measures to ensure safe evacuations in case of a natural disaster in the city that has a history of earthquakes. Chief Secretary Saifullah Chatta taking serious notice of illegal construction in the seismic zone of Quetta has ordered immediate demolition of such buildings. Chattah was of the view that there should be minimum or no loss of lives in case of any natural disaster in the city centre. He has asked Quetta Metropolitan Corporation to check flagrant violation of building code and demolish the illegal construction without any reservations. The chief secretary especially issued orders to make sure that private hospitals and commercial plazas have adequate space for parking vehicles and roads and streets are not choked by illegal parking. He also issued instructions to the authorities concerned to take action against officials found patronising the illegal construction or ignoring violation of building code.
