London’s Metropolitan Police Service on Wednesday reiterated its commitment to bringing to justice the killers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s convener Dr Imran Farooq.

“Detectives from the Met Police Counter-Terrorism Command (SO15) are investigating Dr Farooq’s murder and remain committed to finding those responsible,” Scotland Yard said in a statement released on the fifth anniversary of Dr Farooq’s murder.

“To date they have spoken to 4,555 people, reviewed 7,697 documents, followed up 2,423 lines of inquiry and seized 4,325 exhibits,” the statement said. “On the fifth anniversary of the murder of Dr Farooq, [SO15] officers continue to investigate his death.”

According to the statement, Scotland Yard officers have been in regular contact with Pakistani authorities to gather evidence that could assist in bringing Dr Farooq’s killers to justice.

“They [the officers] have named two men as wanted in connection with the murder – Moshin Ali Syed, 30, a Pakistani national who was in the UK between February 2010 and 16 September 2010; and Muhammad Kashif Khan Kamran, 36, a Pakistani national who was in the UK between early September 2010 and 16 September 2010,” the statement said.

It added that three men previously arrested in connection with this investigation have all been released without charge.

These include a 39-year-old man arrested on 9 December 2010 on suspicion of murder and on suspicion of robbery in October 2009, a 54-year-old man arrested on 24 June 2013 at Heathrow airport on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and a 31-year-old arrested on 27 August 2014 in connection with Dr Farooq’s murder. The three men were released in March 2012, October 2014 and May 2015 respectively.

Scotland Yard also appealed to any individual who could assist detectives in the probe to come forth with information. It assured that any information provided will be dealt with sensitively by officers.
