PESHAWAR: On completing a six-week training at University of Peshawar’s Mass Communication department, 15 journalists were awarded certificates on Tuesday. The training was organised by Aitebaar, a project of the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID). The trainees were provided a newsroom-like environment in a modern news laboratory. Addressing the participants at the ceremony, University of Peshawar Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Rasul Jan lauded the efforts of the department and assured support and assistance for all its endeavours. A senior manager of the project, Andre Collong Wood, said the purpose of the sessions was to train journalists on reporting issues of security and justice. He said 15 more batches of journalists would be trained under Aitebaar in the coming months. Mass Communication Chair Dr Altafullah Khan said the department has been trying to provide better education as well as training to prepare the students for the practical field. Practical knowledge along with textbooks is vital. “The news lab has been set up for the same purpose.”
