Decisive Move: Project for cultural revival

The directorate will arrange programmes that promote and preserve cultural activities of the respective tehsils

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Culture is set to launch “Revival of Indigenous Cultural Heritage Project” in 75 tehsils of the province. Under the project, cultural fairs, games, folk music events, handicrafts and artefact exhibitions, poetry sessions and other activities will be held at the grass-roots level. The approval for the project was given at a meeting. An amount of Rs60 million will be spent on the project that will complete in two years, stated a handout issued on Tuesday. It has also been decided to establish cultural councils in 75 tehsils and those who are passionate about the promotion of culture, history and heritage will be asked to manage them. “The directorate will arrange programmes that promote and preserve cultural activities of the respective tehsils,” stated the handout. It added that the project will not only boost cultural activities but also provide employment opportunities to local artists.
