LAHORE:

As many as 600 young delegates from 135 districts will participate in the 6th National Youth Peace Festival to be held in Lahore from September 15 to 17, Chanan Development Association (CDA) Executive Director Muhammad Shahzad Khan said on Monday.

“There are 300 boys and as many girls participating in the event titled Is Parcham Ke Saye Tale, at Ali auditorium on Ferozepur Road,” Khan told a press conference at Lahore Press Club.

“Many of the delegates have never been to Lahore. They are visiting Gurdwara, Wagha Border and Lahore Fort to get acquainted with the city,” he said.

The festival will feature discussions on democracy, interfaith harmony, peace, the National Action Plan against terrorism, cultural performances and skill-building sessions. The participants will have dialogues with parliamentarians, religious scholars and people from the media.

“The concept is to provide the young minds a platform to discuss several issues and understand policymaking processes,” Khan said.

The press conference was followed by a candle-light vigil to mark the International Day of Democracy.

The Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF) and the Chanan Development Association have organised the festival in collaboration with the Punjab Youth Parliamentarians Caucus, the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF), Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Youth Affairs Departments, Oxfam Novib, the Youth Peer Education Network, the Youth Parliament and Youth Advocacy Network and the Youth Parliament and Justuju – My Rights My Voice programme.
