KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) wants autonomy in corruption instead of provincial matters, said Pakistan Muslim League — Nawaz (PML-N) provincial general secretary and Senator Nihal Hashmi on Sunday.

He was accompanying PML-N Sindh president Mohammad Ismail Rahoo among other leaders at a press conference at the Muslim League House on Sunday. He further said that the PPP should choose if it wants to get results through corruption or voters.

During the press conference, PML-N leaders alleged that the provincial government was using state machinery in its favour for the upcoming local government elections.

According to Rahoo, his party will not let the government's tools be used by the PPP-led government for favourable results. He said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is very limited in its power as it relies on the support of the provincial government.

He said that despite the ban imposed by the ECP on development projects, several projects are being announced by the PPP-led government. "Sindh government wants to dominate local government setup [using] power," alleged Rahoo, adding that the provincial government hasn't served the people of Sindh in the last seven years.

"Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has empowered the institutions," said Rahoo. He said that the cases against the PPP leadership were pending in different courts. "We trust in the judiciary and won't interfere in the affairs of any institution."
