LAHORE:

Thousands of clerks from across the Punjab gathered outside the Civil Secretariat on Wednesday to protest against the government for not accepting their demands.

The protesters blocked the Lower Mall for traffic. They demanded time-scale promotions and up-grade and regularisation of contract employees. Talking to The Express Tribune, All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) DGPR unit chairman Chaudhry Mushtaq said that a delegation of the association had met with government representatives on September 1. “They refused to accept our demand for time-scale promotions and up-grades,” he said.

He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan governments had accepted the demands.

APCA Lahore division president Safdar Hussain said they had given the government until Eidul Azha to accept the demands and issue a notification. He said that the protest sit-in would continue until their demands were met.
