Shutters down: Traders go on strike
No unpleasant incident was reported till the filing of this report
BAHAWALPUR:
Traders in Bahawalpur district observed a complete shutter-down on Wednesday. The country-wide strike was called by the All Pakistan Anjuman-i-Tajraan. The protesting traders condemned the imposition of withholding tax on banking transactions in access of Rs50,000 for those not filing income tax returns. Shops in all major markets of the district remained closed and the All Pakistan Anjuman-i-Tajraan’s Bahawalpur chapter held a peaceful strike throughout the day. No unpleasant incident was reported till the filing of this report. Police, however, were stationed at major markets and remained alert throughout the day to avoid an unpleasant incident.
