FAISALABAD: A murder convict has been scheduled for execution at the Faisalabad Central Jail on Thurdsay (today). Two convicts will be hanged at the prison on Friday.

A spokesperson for the Prisons Department said on Wednesday that Muhammad Khalid, son of Muhammad Hussain, a resident of Chak 308-GB, Samundri, had killed a rival in 1999 to avenge an old enmity.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Bashirud Din had sentenced him to death on February 28, 2002.

The apex court had upheld the lower court’s decision and the president had turned down his mercy plea.

Khalid met his relatives for the last time on Wednesday. The spokesperson said arrangements for his execution are complete.

He said separately, Akhaq Ahmad and Shaukat Ali, who had murdered two of their cousins Tariq Javaid and Zafar Iqbal on February 2, 2001, will be hanged on Friday. He said they had murdered Javaid and Iqbal on court premises.

Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Chaudhry Ikramul Haq had sentenced Ahmad and Ali to death on four counts each.

The apex court had upheld the decision of the lower court and the president had rejected their mercy petitions.

Black warrants have been issued for the two and they will be hanged at the Faisalabad Central Jail on Friday morning, he said.
