ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) decided on Tuesday to become a party to, and contest the stance of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Ayaz Sadiq in its review petition over an election tribunal’s verdict on NA-122, Lahore.
Former speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq had on Monday challenged the election tribunal’s decision, which called for re-polling in NA-122 constituency.
On Tuesday, PTI chairman Imran Khan filed a petition against Sadiq, alleging rigging in the 2013 polls.
“The party has decided to contest the case in Supreme Court,” PTI Information Secretary Naeemul Haq said in a statement.
Haq said Imran had asked lawyer Hamid Khan to follow the case and become a party before the court, following which an application was submitted before the apex court.

Meanwhile, PTI’s national organiser Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the party will contest the local government elections independently, and will not form an alliance with any party.
“PTI is a political party which received about 7.8 million votes in the May 2013 polls,” he said, adding that the party’s ideology and vision for ‘Naya’ Pakistan had distinguished it from others.
