LAHORE: The Alif Laila Book Bus Society on Monday announced an initiative to set up new libraries. “To celebrate International Literacy Day, Alif Laila will help children set up small libraries in schools and communities, which they will then be responsible for running,” a statement issued by the society said. “We are truly excited to announce this,” said Syeda Basarat Kazim, the Alif Laila Book Bus Society president. According to the society, the project will involve children nationwide through collaboration with schools. “The children will be required to fill in a simple form with contact details, a brief statement on how they will operate and the commitment to send Alif Laila Pakistan photographs and short reports on libraries. They will then be sent a box of 50 books to get the library started,” she said. She said there would be annual provincial best practice awards for three best run libraries.
