LAHORE:

Representatives from all opposition parties in the province would approach the Election Commission of Pakistan office on Tuesday to lodge their complaints about disbursement of development funds by the provincial government among its candidates for local government elections, Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed said on Monday.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Rasheed said the decision was taken in view of the Punjab Assembly deputy speaker’s refusal to allow debate on his privilege motion on the issue on Friday.

He said the government had disbursed Rs7 billion amongst its candidates to fund development schemes in their constituencies. He said the motion had been accepted at the Assembly Secretariat but the deputy speaker refused to allow debate on it.

Pakistan Peoples Party’s Sardar Shahabud Din said his party’s legislators would accompany the PTI in the visit to the ECP officie.

He said the opposition was united and determined not to allow the government to rig the local government elections.

Rasheed and Shahabud Din said they had asked their party men to bring to the ECP office evidence of use of development funds by PML-N candidates to fund schemes in their areas.
