Brighter prospects : Power plant inaugurated at Mardan university

The project would be completed within nearly seven months and its total cost has been estimated to be Rs320 million

To make the varsity self-sufficient in the production of electricity, a 2.5 megawatt power plant project has been inaugurated at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan.


“The project will be completed by March 2016 and the plant would generate electricity with the help of gas, coal and waste,” said the contactor of the project, Tie Group Chief Executive Muhammad Imra, while addressing participants at a meeting held at the university.

AWKUM Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Ihsan Ali, who was also present at the meeting, told the participants that the university has allotted one acre of land for the project and once it is completed, students and staff would not have issues related to power.

“The project is of great importance given the current power crisis in the country.” The project would be completed within nearly seven months and its total cost has been estimated to be Rs320 million.
