Govt chalks out comprehensive plan for rehabilitation of TDPs

Work on development projects worth Rs3.5 billion is being implemented for uplift of far-flung areas of Khyber Agency

The federal government has devised a comprehensive development programme for the rehabilitation of temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure in the Federally Administered Tribal Agencies (FATA), Radio Pakistan reported.

Under the programme, work on a development package worth Rs3.5 billion is being implemented for uplift of far-flung areas of Tirah Valley in Khyber Agency.

While the government would provide Rs400,000 as financial assistance to those whose houses have been completely damaged, Rs160,000 will be given to each owner of partially damaged houses for reconstruction.

A survey has also been launched in Khyber, North Waziristan and South Waziristan to ascertain the damages.

Meanwhile, the return of TDPs of Sararogha, Sarwakai and Tiarza tehsils of South Waziristan Agency to their homes began on Monday.

According to the Fata Disaster Management Authority, over 9,000 displaced families would be rehabilitated in their native areas during this phase.

The federal government is also providing Rs35,000 and six months of ration to every returning displaced family. Earlier on Sunday, the government released Rs5 billion for the rehabilitation of TDPs.
